Easy to Use, Flexible and Tough
Wood-frame construction
combines dimensional lumber or engineered wood products and structural wood panel sheathing
to make wall, floor and roof assemblies that can be built quickly and efficiently. The
assemblies are tough, durable, easy to connect and easy to insulate.
Wood-frame construction can be adapted to any energy code requirement so wood houses,
offices, schools and other commercial and industrial buildings can keep energy bills for
heating and cooling low.
Post-and-beam construction is both functional and striking. It uses columns and beams to
support vertical loads, intermediate framing to support exterior sheathing and interior
finish and provide space for insulation, and diagonal bracing or other support to resist
lateral loads. Since partitions do not normally carry vertical loads, interior walls can
be located to meet the building's functional needs.
Wood buildings can be constructed year-round in most climates, and workers with varying
levels of skill and experience can quickly learn and apply wood construction techniques.
Wood is easy to transport and can be sized and cut on site.
Wood is easy to use and offers immense flexibility. Wiring and plumbing can be installed
easily, and wood buildings can be redesigned to suit changing needs.
